| 4th STAGE - BARGE - TORRE PELLICE - JULY 25th, 2007 | IV tappa - 25/07/2007 – from Barge (CN) to Torre Pellice (TO) Great stage for the Czeck rider Sibl followed by an incredibile Hugo Nieto. Despite his perfect conduction of the two Special stages, Nieto is beated by the coefficients.
THE TRIAL:
2 PS = From Barge to Bric Bussona and from Barbara Lowrie Bivouac (Bobbio Pellice) to Torre Pellice.
Coefficients:
PS 1 = 2 (each second of delay = 1 point = trasformed into 2 points)
PS 2 = 1 (each second of delay =1 point)
77 km total length
7 hrs imposed time
9 hrs maximum time
Wonderful weather and a light wind see the bikers leave at 9. Yesterday evening, the fireworks and the party went on late in the night, and the iron bikers needed rest.
The stage starts in Barge climbing up to Rucas (famous Piedmont ski resort).
From Rucas athletes go up and down the Col Valanza (1530 m) passing on rough streets full of stones falled down from the trucks that work in this area. Infact, in this valley, the famous “stone of Barge” is produced. It is used for pavements and roofs, all over the world.
Climbing the rough street to the Barbara bivouac is a nightmare. 15 km of long, regular uphills (20%) under the hottest sun.
The second PS starts at Barbara: up and down the col of Barant (highest point of this stage - 2369 m) and than downhill the road to Torre Pellice.
The tandem of the french team composed by Yves and Bruno started this morning at 9. They didn’t complete the stage because of the Barbara uphill. Too difficult to keep the balance on those narrow rough bends!
Sandra Klomp did a wonderful trial as usual even if, right at the end of the stage, she suffered the hot weather.
The fight between Sibl and Prado Nieto goes on. The two bikers did a wonderful race as usual. Sibl is first in both Specials but Prado Nieto’s difference time was a mere 1’09’’ only!
Unfortunately, coefficient for today’s 1st PS was 2: thus the difference in time during the 1st special trial gives double points! Another difficulty to pass for this brave brasilian rider.
Miroslav Janotav from Czeck Republic is alwasy third while spanish Alzamora and Mauro Pellegrino are fighting for the 4th position. Today, Mauro won ahead of the spanish Alzamora.
Always ahead of the FS2 category (40 years old on) is fitness trainer Axel Strauss from Austria while the Mixed Couples category is for the moment, a full italian job, headed by Niccolini – Cuffaro from Genoa.
